Elk's TRG-1640 is one of the best transformers for alarm systems or similar applications. It provides 16VAC at up to 45VA and has a built-in auto-resetting PTC protection circuit. This is key in case of a temporary overload or short circuit that would render most power supplies useless. Elk shuts down to protect your system, then resets after you correct the problem.
